The story of Jeong's Family Taekwondo.

World champion Grandmaster Chan Jeong opened our first school in St. Catharines in 1999. Today his family runs our four locations in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.

Welcome to Jeong's Family Taekwondo

His story

From South Korea to Niagara, St. Catharines.

Grandmaster Chan Jeong won 18 Korean national championships and gold at the 1979 World Championships, the 1980 Asian Championships and the 1981 World Games. He received South Korea's Order of Sports Merit and a Presidential Citation.

He was a coach for South Korea's national team, and he coached at the World Championships. In 1990 he opened his own taekwondo academy in Korea.

In 1999 he moved his family to Canada and opened the first Jeong's Family Taekwondo in St. Catharines. In 2004 he became head of Team Canada.

He holds a 9th degree black belt and an MBA, and has served on the board of directors of Taekwondo Ontario. He continues to teach at our Ontario Street school.

In our community

Taekwondo in local schools.

Through our Edu-Kicks Taekwondo Program, we teach taekwondo at elementary schools across St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Thorold, in Niagara Catholic and District School Board of Niagara schools and at private schools, including Ridley College.

We teach the whole school the basics, then run a lunchtime program. The $20 fee for each child goes back to the school, all of it.

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Niagara Falls, 300 students joined in the 2023/24 school year, and the school received $6,000.

Every Jeong's location is a member of Taekwondo Canada and Taekwondo Ontario.

We believe great instructors are defined not by the medals they’ve earned, but by the difference they make in the lives of their students.

We teach with kindness, patience, and understanding, while maintaining the discipline and respect that are at the heart of Taekwondo.

We recognize that every student learns differently. Some progress quickly, while others need more time, encouragement, or guidance. What matters is that every student has the opportunity to grow.

We celebrate achievements, encourage effort, and use mistakes as opportunities to teach.

Above all, we believe that how we treat our students matters just as much as what we teach them.
